The popular TV host Frano Ridjan visited the Zagreb primary school Matija Gubec too within the project Choose Sport. The famous TV host told the pupils the true tale of the tiny Jigoro Kano, who wanted to become big and strong and thus became a judo contestant . The pupils liked best practicing the traditional Japanese and judo bow with Frano.
This show for children in 12 Zagreb primary schools is being implemented through the project Choose Sport. The children’s play “Olympic Stories” in those schools that are involved in the project – is but an additional activity that aims at motivating pupils to inclusion into the judo sport.
The goal of the project Choose Sport is mass inclusion of children into sport, and the creation of habits of long term involvement with sport. The project addresses the general population of school children, but its target group are children in adverse social standing and thus in risk of social exclusion (children with unemployed parents, whose parents receive children’s benefits, without appropriate parenting, those from single parent families, from families with three or more children, and those children with behavioral issues). The children are given free memberships in the judo clubs of the Zagreb Judo Union: the judo club “Lika“ and the judo club “Zagreb,“ where they also receive free sports equipment – a judo kimono.
The implementation of the project is co-financed by EU, from the European Social Fund.
