Rijeka, 19 January 2019 – A meeting with representatives of the judo club Rijeka involved in the implementation of the project JUDO INclusion – AKTIVAN I ZDRAV (ACTIVE AND HEALTHY) – RIJEKA – UP.02.1.1.08.0010. – financed by the European Social Fund was held aiming at agreements dealing with the further organisation of the implementation of the project and for the purpose of preparing the first issue of the JudoIN magazine. We had conversations with Mr Leonard Bressan, president of the JC JK Rijeka, a doctor, GP, who takes care of the health of all club judo players; we also talked with the main coach of the club and the main secretary of the Rijeka Sport Union, Slaviša Bradić. However, we devoted most time to  talks with the JC Rijeka coach Sandra Uršičić, who had specialised in the academic and professional meaning for working with children with developmental difficulties (TUR). How was it for Sandra to meet for the very first time and start training according to adjusted judo programmes with children who have different physical or mental difficulties, the Down syndrome, cerebral paralysis, chromosome apathy, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, heart disease, muscle dystrophy, some less severe autism or ADHD?  Many of these children cannot even stand independently, or would not let be touched during the initial session, and judo is, after all, quite a contact sport. To read about Sandra’s experience, fears and the great coaching and pedagogical dedication to children with developmental difficulties, and about the impressions of the parents on their impressions of their children going to first judo trainings and about how judo helps their children with developmental difficulties – reach for the first issue of the JudoIN magazine. You will realise why judo is IN and why this is a sport for everybody!
